Project: Learning The Land: Improving map-based interactions

When people consult maps together, they use gestures as a component of their interactions. However, when collaborators are remote to each other or communicating asynchronously, the gesture information can be lost. In normal CSCW applications we resolve this problem by providing telepointers or video-based representations of participant's hands and arms, but these techniques are not as effective under some circumstances. This project explores the limitations of the state-of-the-art solutions to the concurrent and post hoc representation of gestural information generated during map-based interactions.
